My First Impression of Snow Leopard

I just recently got my hands on the new Snow Leopard and installed it onto my 2.2 Ghz MacBook. At purchase, I’ve bought my MacBook as OS X Leopard, and now fully upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard. The installation procedure was easy but took quite some time. While waiting for the installation process to finish, I began read the little pamphlet that came with the packaging box. As expected, I was already expecting only performance improvements rather than new glitzy features from the new operating system.

Why I Think Snow Leopard Will Fail

Apple
We all know that Microsoft and Apple is competing with each other for the release of their newest operating system, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard. While 7 will boast a lot of new features, performance improvements, and stability and mainly usability and user-friendliness, Snow Leopard is more geared towards system performance.
Although Apple has a lot of support from fans and followers on the Snow Leopard release, we have to consider the people who consumes their products. Most, if not all, are wealthy individuals who can actually afford the system. Many of them are graphics designers, audio, and video producers. In other words, most of these people lives in the world of arts, and that is why they choose Apple and their appealing design as their personal computer. Many of them, planning to stand in line to purchase the new operating system, will probably be upset. Why? These people create art for a living and the demand for art and design is much higher than actual usability. While Snow Leopard may show a great improvement in performance, many of them won’t even notice. They will become upset with the lack of changes in features as Snow Leopard mainly emphasizes core improvements.
In comparison to Windows 7, where there are a lot of physical changes, many people who follows a market for visual appeal will most likely consider Windows 7 rather than Snow Leopard as the visual improvements is more steeper from Vista to 7, than from Leopard to Snow Leopard.

Apple,
Microsoft,
Rants
I recently saw this website the other day and was amazed at how clever the idea was. What seems to be a website supporting Microsoft’s operating system – Vista and their newly upcoming Windows 7 – is actually ranting about how poor the quality and design is. I love sarcasm so I really liked that idea. In fact, so much that I pulled an all-nighter that same night and made this website. You can tell it’s just the opposite. Having been a long time PC user, and also a Mac user (I also own a Macbook and went through several iPods/iPhones), I’d thought it would be funny to create a counter-site. From both my experience on Mac and PC, they both have they’re own advantages and disadvantages but as a computer enthusiast, knowing the facts about the industry puts me on Microsoft’s side rather than Apple.
