Business
Lately, my freelancing career, or should I call it self-started business has picked up. With the recent completions of several jobs, I find it now easier to find new clients. The experience gained from these past several months on freelancing has helped me greatly and I’d thought I’d take a few minutes out of the day to share my thoughts.

Gaining Interest In Design
Posted by Vu Tran on May 11th, 2009 in
Rants
For the past few weeks, I’ve seen myself busy with one of my client’s website. With the deadline far ahead, I still find myself devoted to finishing the task before the final day. Sitting at the desk and designing and coding at the same time, back and forth is very time consuming. Most of the time, I get caught up and lose track of the time to find out that it’s already 3:00 AM in the morning.

Web Design
I’ve taken the initiative and pulled an all-nighter last night to finish up the last touches on the design and coded out the design straight from the PSD to HTML/CSS. I went ahead to download the Release Candidate and to my expectations, all my softwares installed fine without needing to open Firefox and use Google as a troubleshooter.

Rants
For the next few weeks, I’m planning on giving my portfolio a complete makeover. With my increasing experience in design, I’m trying out new styles to compose a new look for my website. There will be a lot of content and features to be added such as social networking feeds and updates, and more beautiful graphics. But don’t worry, while designing, I’m still improving my development skills as well.

Choosing the Right Web Hosting Company

Web Hosting
As the first post to my blog, I’m currently awaiting for an approval from one of my client’s hosting company for a domain change. This brings up the topic of hosting companies.
There are a bunch of web hosting companies out there, most of which offers competitive low prices ranging from $1.00 to $15.00 a year. While these servers may look enticing for a business owner to cut costs, dealing with the control panel may be an issue. Some comes with an integrated custom control panel while other uses a more generic control panel software such as cPanel. I’d much prefer using cPanel as I am sure most of you as well than to log into a client’s hosting account and see an administrative section with buttons and notices/messages all over the place.
